Elbit Systems Ltd.

Elbit Systems Ltd. (ESLT) is an Israeli defense contractor with a broad portfolio of advanced systems and solutions. Its offerings span ground forces, air and space missions, cybersecurity, networked warfare, homeland security, autonomous technologies, and naval applications. With rising geopolitical tensions – especially in the Middle East – demand for Elbit’s systems is expected to remain strong.

That demand is clear in its backlog. In the second quarter, Elbit reported a record $23.8 billion in orders. Notably, about 68% of that backlog came from customers outside of Israel.

Total second-quarter revenue increased 21.3% year-over-year to $1.97 billion, while earnings jumped 62.9% year-over-year to $151 million, or $3.23 per share. The consensus estimate called for earnings of $2.57 per share, so Elbit Systems posted a 25.7% earnings surprise.

For the third quarter, analysts expect earnings to rise 23.5% year-over-year to $2.73 per share and for revenue to grow 15.5% year-over-year to $1.98 billion. Analysts have increased earnings estimates over the past month, so a quarterly earnings surprise is likely. ESLT is a Conservative buy below $516.

Sea Limited

Sea Limited (SE) was a new addition to the High-Growth Investments Buy List in the August Monthly Issue. Based in Singapore, Sea Limited is a leading internet company that’s focused on using technology to enhance consumers’ lives and small businesses. The company operates three businesses: digital entertainment, e-commerce and digital financial services.

And strong demand for all three of its businesses helped Sea Limited crush analysts’ expectations for the second quarter.

Total revenue increased 38.2% year-over-year to $5.3 billion, compared to estimates for $4.96 billion. The company noted that e-commerce orders grew 28.6% year-over-year to 3.3 billion. Digital financial services revenue jumped 70% year-over-year to $882.8 million, while digital entertainment bookings rose 23.2% year-over-year to $661.3 million.

Second-quarter earnings surged 418.3% year-over-year to $414.2 million, or $0.65 per share, up from $79.91 million, or $0.14 per share, in the same quarter a year ago. Analysts expected earnings of $0.64 per share, so Sea Limited posted a slight earnings surprise.

In the wake of the second-quarter earnings announcement, the analyst community has upped third-quarter earnings estimates. Third-quarter earnings are forecast to grow 44% year-over-year to $1.08 per share, while revenue is expected to rise 30.2% year-over-year to $5.64 billion. SE is a Conservative buy below $204.
